Green Lake gym opens its Halloween party to the whole neighborhood
Green Lake Strength and Conditioning was throwing a Halloween party on Friday, October 30, and non-members are explicitly invited.
The party started at 7:30 PM at 466 NE 70th St, right as the gym's normal Friday, October 30, hours end. Costumes are encouraged, pet costumes included, with prizes for both. Halloween trivia, BYOB, and a call for food contributions round it out. No ticket required, no RSVP link posted. Co-owner Nate kept the invitation simple: "Everyone is invited, so bring your friends and family!"
A pattern of opening the floor
This is not new.
A Trivia Night in July 2026 used the same 7:30 PM slot and the same language: "Open to all GLSC members and their friends & family, everyone is welcome!" The gym also ran a recurring Bring a Friend Friday, October 30,, where members bring non-member guests to a regular group class.
The access-first identity goes back to when Kate and Nate Muller bought the then-CrossFit affiliate in early 2020. They dropped the CrossFit brand, removed prescribed weights, and got rid of leaderboards. "We took away leaderboards. We found they made people emphasize speed/intensity over movement quality," they wrote in a 2022 post. Members chose the replacement name.
From CrossFit box to neighborhood gym
The building on NE 70th has been a gym since Northwest CrossFit opened there, around 2007 or 2008 by different accounts on the gym's own pages. Kate and Nate joined as members in 2011. "In early 2020, we couldn't pass up an opportunity to own our favorite gym," they wrote.
The rebrand shed the CrossFit name after, as they put it, "some actions by CrossFit HQ convinced us that we couldn't be part of that brand." Their stated aim was narrower than a chain: "We aren't in this to create a fitness empire. We're here to support our local community, and that community is Green Lake." In October 2025, they became sole owners of a Ballard gym called Twenty Pound Hammer, later renamed Polaris Strength and Conditioning. A GLSC membership now covers both locations.
The coaches running it now
Nate remains a coach at the Green Lake location.
Head Coach Johnathon and General Manager Hannah run day-to-day operations, handling workouts and membership respectively. In October 2026, Coach Jess began leading her first classes. She joined as a member in May 2024 and worked in the front office before transitioning to coaching. Coach Nate wrote: "Jess joined GLSC through Individualized Design in May 2024 and has grown from member to staff member and now coach."
Member Sophie, who joined in March 2025, puts the draw plainly: "Being a part of GLSC has given me a community to look forward to seeing each time I come in!"
