Larissa Kolasinski Turned a Scare Into a Mission

2 min read

Running has been part of Larissa Kolasinski's life for more than 18 years, and in that time Larissa has tried nearly every version of the sport there is, from the mile to the ultramarathon. Larissa has completed all six Abbott World Marathon Majors, among the largest and most competitive marathons in the world, and has gone on to become a sponsored athlete and a Guinness World Record holder.

A large group of roughly 80–100 runners gathered in a semicircle on a paved path at the edge of Green Lake, all facing the camera. The lake, a floating dock, and autumn-bare trees with overcast sky are behind them. Everyone is in running gear — tights, shorts, jackets, caps. A few people in the back have arms raised. The frame is wide enough that the people in the back rows are somewhat small.

Seattle Green Lake Running Group opens its Monday morning track session to any runner.

A large pack of runners in race bibs surging across a grass field at the start or early stages of a cross-country race. Most wear blue singlets with race numbers; a dense crowd of spectators lines the hillside behind them under autumn-coloured trees. The field is bright and open, clearly a grass XC course.

The Cougar Mountain Trail Run lands exactly on Halloween this year.

About thirteen to fourteen people posed as a group on a wet sidewalk/street corner on a grey, overcast day. All are dressed in running gear — tights, running tops, hats, gloves, race bibs visible on some. One person holds a handwritten sign reading 'RUN NOW LATER'. At least one person wears a shirt with 'West Seattle Runner' text visible. One person holds blue and orange pom-poms. Bare winter trees and a brick building (appears to be a church) are in the background. The group is looking at the camera, smiling.

West Seattle Runner was swapping its regular Wednesday, October 28, group run for a costumed neighborhood tour of Halloween displays on October 28, 2026.

A group of people walking along a leafy paved trail in bright autumn light. In the centre a bearded man in a full pirate costume (brown leather vest, bandana, small parrot on shoulder) pushes a baby stroller decorated to look like a pirate ship/treasure chest, with a toddler inside. Three other people walk alongside — a young man on the left in a 'Cows & Hustlers' T-shirt, two others to the right — all smiling or laughing. Autumn trees with yellow leaves line the trail. Nobody is running; all are walking. No race bibs visible on the non-pirate participants.

Every distance is full.

A single woman runner on a forest trail, bib number 1764 visible, arms spread wide with hands raised and a huge grin toward the camera, mid-stride on a leaf-covered dirt path. Mossy ferns, autumn leaves, and tall conifers surround her. She is big in the frame and clearly in motion.

A long line of trail runners/hikers strung out along a golden alpine ridge in the Olympic National Forest, walking away from camera toward a rocky peak. Several in the foreground wear the group's signature black-and-white cow-print running shorts, one wears a matching cow-print bucket hat.

Aaron Long started an Instagram account called Cowgill in 2018, posting silly, deliberately non-elite trail running content out of Seattle: in-jokes, shenanigans, nothing that resembled a training log. For a few years, that's all it was.

Runners in Dick's-A-Thon shirts and bibs lined up under a Dick's Drive-In sign

Connor Cox was leaving Seattle in 2018, and on April 21 he and his twin brother Ian ran one last loop between all five Dick's Drive-In counters in the city. How far they went depends on who tells it. The organizers' own history page and a post on Washington's National Park Fund both put the loop at 20 miles, and an older version of that history page, still live on the same domain, gives the same date and the same distance.
