RowdyBox goes Halloween on October 31

RowdyBox was turning its regular Saturday 12:15pm slot into a costume boxing session on October 31.

The gym's Instagram posted the invite on October 27: "COSTUMES ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!" The class is a special boxing fundamentals session called Footwork 101, led by Coach Mike Thomas at 1918 4th Ave in downtown Seattle. Footwork, new techniques, and putting those skills to work inside the Rowdy Room.

Coach Mike Thomas

Thomas has coached boxing in Seattle since October 2017, when he moved to the area.

Before that, he privately trained locals in Germany and found a passion for sharing the sport with newcomers. He competed at the amateur level through USA Boxing, captaining a local team and entering tournaments including Silver Gloves and Azalea Festival.

He started boxing in 2012 as an undergrad at NC State, originally from Long Island. On his profile: "I still live in Belltown and carry more love and enthusiasm for the sport every day!"

What happens in the Rowdy Room

RowdyBox opened in downtown Seattle in late 2020, having developed the concept in 2018.

The format is 10 rounds, split between boxing on water-filled bags and floor work with weights and resistance bands. Google reviewer Seri L. put it plainly: "There are 10 rounds total and you switch between the floor and the bag."

Co-founder Sami Sweeney described the space to CanvasRebel in April 2024 as offering "night club vibes" alongside high-end equipment. Color-changing LED lights, a 15-foot projector screen, and high-end sound fill a room built for group work. Bring boxing gloves, hand wraps, and a water bottle.

The team behind the gym

RowdyBox fields 11 coaches as of September 2026.

Head Coaches Sammie Brown and Tobi Shenbanjo anchor the roster alongside Thomas. Brown started coaching kids speed skating and has kept at it for 15-plus years. Shenbanjo is London-born and coached at OrangeTheory in Seattle.

Coach Billie has competed in 9 amateur bouts and is a full-time painter found at the Fremont Sunday Market: "It's NEVER too late to learn something new." Coach Jaz brings nearly 14 years in group fitness and boxing. Coach Ron trained and sparred at Fortune Gym under Justin Fortune, longtime strength and conditioning coach for Manny Pacquiao. First-timer glove rentals are free; hand wraps are required and sold in the studio.

Booking and getting there

RowdyBox's FAQ notes that classes often sell out; the automatic waitlist fills open spots.
