Thursdays at Gas Works Park

Yerbana's Yoga in the Park closed its 2026 season on Thursday, September 17, with Session #19 at Gas Works Park, billed as "the final Yoga in the Park of the 2026 season".

The run opened May 21, Wallyhood's preview said, with classes on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., most of them on the lawn below the old gasworks towers at 2101 N Northlake Way and a few at Woodland Park. Yerbana counts 2026 as the series' sixth year. Wallyhood put the draw at "over 1000 people each class". No more Thursdays are on the calendar.

Who runs Yerbana

Yerbana calls itself a "social enterprise" with a mission of making wellness accessible, and says grants, sponsorships and community funding keep its offerings that way.

James Tan is chief executive officer and Chris Wurden chief operations officer. A blurb under its June 2026 session listings spells out the larger tie: "We're a division of the Center for Suicide Awareness, a 501(c)3 nonprofit." The center is based in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Its 2025 year-in-review post announced a new partnership with Yerbana, "our Seattle-based wellness division", and listed the yoga series among Yerbana's programming.

How a Thursday worked

Most nights came with a studio sponsor, a teacher or two and a DJ, along with local vendors, giveaways and a wellness vendor market on the lawn. Yerbana asked people to bring a mat, some water and whoever they wanted to bring along. Entry was free. Yerbana suggested a donation of $15 a session and offered a monthly-supporter option.

The studios and teachers

Twelve studio session sponsors backed the 2026 season, among them studios in Ballard, Capitol Hill, Green Lake, Queen Anne and Roosevelt.

Some teachers came back. Berkeley Glasser taught for Praxis Ballard on June 25, and when Praxis returned August 13, Yerbana had her "back on the mic", a year after two Praxis nights of her own in 2025. Eoin Finn of Blissology and Chelsea Murphy of Halea Yoga, the Green Lake studio, were back from the 2025 lineup, Finn on July 9 and Murphy on July 16.

Leah Zaccaria and Morgan Zion co-taught September 3 for Shefa/Haute, the Roosevelt and Queen Anne studio, a year after their September 4, 2025, night for Shefa. Frani Assaf, director of SweatBox Yoga, a studio "serving Capitol Hill since 2001", led July 2. Hannah Rex taught for Seattle Bouldering Project on July 30, with breathwork facilitator Christopher August of Beats and Breath on the bill, and Nancy Lea taught September 10 for Ahimsa Yoga and Pilates in Queen Anne.

Woodland Park and the one Sunday

Three Thursdays moved the series to Woodland Park, meeting at 5800 West Green Lake Way North, each billed as "Flow in the Forest": July 23, August 6 and August 27. TruFusion Ballard sponsored August 6 with Olivia Fleming teaching, and SweatBox came back for August 27 with Chelsi Alexandria.

One session broke the Thursday pattern. On Sunday, June 21, again from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gas Works, the Consulate General of India, Seattle sponsored the class and Ashish Arora taught. The consulate's line for the night: "Proudly celebrating the International Day of Yoga with the global Indian community and all of Seattle."

What comes next

Yerbana's next listed event was Saturday, October 24, at the Greenlake 5K & Wellness Festival on the east side of Green Lake Park.

Snohomish Running Company produces the race. Yerbana is putting together the Wellness Village, with sponsor activations and studio-led programming, open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Entry is free, Yerbana takes free RSVPs, and nobody needs to register for the 5K to attend.

Yoga in the Park gets one more outing there after the run, with yoga from 11 a.m. to noon as the first workshop, though the full program is still to be announced. No 2027 dates are out. Yerbana is already inviting session sponsors to "Inquire for season 2027".
